DREAM CAMP

The Asser Levy Public Bath and Recreation Center is a 19th Century bathhouse, in Lower Manhattan, inspired by Roman baths dating back to the fourth century. The site was already a place for therapeutic practices in which our design studio was prompted to manifest in our proposals. The main lens was the use of dream incubation as a technique to encourage specific behaviors attributed to consciousness to occur. Either for recreation or to attempt to cure people through sleep therapy. The focal point of my proposed ‘Dream Camp’ was to induce different states of wakefulness through urban and architectural elements. Static meditation triggered through designated daydreaming quarters and passive meditation was triggered by meandering amongst the loosely controlled landscape.
