SITE ANALYSIS

The scope of this studio project was to develop a proposal for a regenerative intervention on the Hudson River waterfront of Dobbs Ferry, NY. The premise was defined by a careful analysis of the existing site conditions which included the urban vs. suburban context, and the link between site boundaries.  By defining these conditions and systematically addressing program, it unfolded into a Traditional Boat Building Academy and Maritime Museum. The rehabilitation of the site, intended for visitors ranging from daily visitors to temporary residents, engaged them in learning and executing traditional boat building techniques to ultimately experience the launching of their own boat. The community influenced proposal was intended to bridge the gap between the urban conditions of New York City to the more suburban/rural conditions of Dobbs Ferry. By providing a community focused hub, adjacent to an iconic waterway, the design strives to reconnect a Hudson River town to its original identity.
